Apollo 11 50th Anniversary

The year 2019 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing back on July 20, 1969.

The Apollo 11 Moon landing was one of those events we all seem to remember where we were at the time. If you were alive at the time.

My Apollo 11 Moon Landing Location

I watched the Eagle land on the Moon from the ramp going up to the boathouse at Woodworth Lake Scout Reservation in the Adirondack Mountains.

The photo to the left shows the ramp where I sat watching a TV setup inside the boathouse in front of a garge door size opening. Later in the evening we all went to the arts and crafts room at the trading post to watch the first steps on the Moon.

U.S. Mint Commemorative Apollo 11 Coins

The United States Mint has gotten into the spirit by offering Apollo 11 50th Anniversary commemorative silver and gold coins.

What caught my attenion was that it is a curved coin showing the reflection off Buzz Aldrin's helmet shield looking at Neil Armstrong. The other side shows the first step on the Moon.

Some of the premiums from the sale of the coins are going to three organizations.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s Destination Moon exhibit.

The Astronauts Memorial Foundation.

The Astronauts Scholarship Foundation.
